It’s another towering success for Cotswold’s heavy duty window hardware as part of a mega construction contract in Abu Dhabi, capital city of the UAE. Consisting of four high rise towers, the East and West International Group (EWIG) development offers a 36-floor luxury hotel, a 16-floor residential tower, a 20-storey service apartment building, and a 16-floor office tower.

Nearly 600 pairs Cotswold HD friction stays have been specified for top hung aluminium windows in the impressive structures, including 480 pairs of HD22-SB (Self Balancing) stays which can carry commercial vents up to 100kg in weight without the need for additional support arms. These are complemented by 80 pairs of HD26-50 hinges, specially designed for the Middle Eastern market by Cotswold for windows weighing up to 100kg.

Alumco LLC, the UAE-based specialised aluminum facade contractor and major glass processor, has provided the aluminum composite cladding, aluminum and glazing works for the mixed use development. Samer Barakat, Managing Director of Alumco LLC, comments: “This prestigious project paves the way for our first step into Abu Dhabi.”

The contract involves the installation of a total of 45,000 sq m of aluminum fittings, which includes 25,000 sq m of unitized curtain wall, 16,000 sq m of stick curtain wall sliding doors and 3,700 sq m of aluminum fins and 700 sq m of louvers. Manufactured from high grade austenitic stainless steel, Cotswold’s HD hinges ensure enhanced performance for commercial construction projects involving large section aluminium windows. The hinges are proven to a lifetime of 50,000 cycles and feature Cotswold’s exclusive composite steel/plastic slider for strength, durability and smooth operation.

Summing up, Samer Barakat says: “Alumco LLC has a proven track record in a specialised area of construction and engineering. Our initiatives to comply with the requirements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), in line with the UAE‘s commitment to advance the green building concept, has also enhanced our position with leading developers in the region.”
